I have a deep personal connection with each of today’s presenters for the Yoga of Parenting Bay Area Launch party at @mettayogamarin 6/3, 4p

I’ve know @jocelynkaylevy of @weeyogis the longest. We met in our 200hr teacher training in 2008 and we’ve witnessed major losses and major joys in one another’s lives in those ensuing 15yrs. Joc’ recently brought her phenomenal kids yoga program Wee Yogis to a brick and mortar space here in Marin and you must come play if you are local.

@hylong.mike and I go back to LA too. He was a regular student of one of my closest friends at the time and I always loved having him come to class as he was such a light. He moved back home to Nor Cal (specially Marin) shortly after I moved up and he’s always been one of my favorite people up here. He’s an amazing dad and son and pure light.

As soon as I moved up here, people kept telling me “you must meet @bexurban ! You two could be sister. You teach and sound the same!” and it was instantaneous love and kinship when I finally met her. I had no idea that when we moved to Marin I’d be living a few blocks away from her or that when we hired Jonah’s very first nanny, it would be the same woman who raised all 3 or Bex’s kids! The universe wants us together and on one another’s paths and I’m so grateful to have this spiritual sister by my side!

I’m super grateful to these folks for showing up for me today (and always) and I’m especially excited to share their unique gifts with all of YOU!

“When I think back to my teen years and early twenties, it boggles my mind that I was able to maintain the lifestyle I did.

I moved fast, stayed up late, worked a high-intensity job in the film industry, lived on caffeine and cigarettes, and partied a lot.

I was young and didn’t have kids. I was still a kid myself in a lot of ways, but when I got an ulcer, I knew it was time to make some adjustments. Or more accurately, my older sister told me I needed to.

Late one night, in a steamy room in Santa Monica, my sister, @jenrepo , took me to my first power yoga class. I had done asana many times up to that point, but it was mostly on video at home or in gym settings…

It was the best I had felt in years, and after just a few weeks attending of classes almost every day, I quickly became aware of the discordances between my old life and my desired new one….” Excerpted from The Yoga of Parenting in @layogamagazine !

@feliciatomasko launched my writing career in a lot of ways! She published my pieces before i knew what a byline was and always believed in me and my projects.

Over the years, she has worked with numerous families in San Francisco and Marin, forming trusting bonds and life long working relationships. She specializes in lifestyle family, newborn, and maternity photography, as well as professional headshots and branding images.

How do you protect your sleep as a parent? 🤷🏻‍♀️This is not a riddle.

Its actually what we do throughout the day that helps influence our night’s sleep.

It’s called sleep hygiene and borrowing from Ayurveda, there are a few super simple things we can do today to help us sleep better tonight.

✅ Dim the lights
✅ Ditch (or limit) the screens
✅ Wake up before dawn

I cover these and more in my book The Yoga of Parenting’s chapter on Ayurveda.

I interviewed the amazing @behappydoyoga Kathryn Templeton for the actual book and then I got to sit down with @ayurvedabysiva for my upcoming podcast, so I have lots of Ayurvedic wisdom and guidance to share with you all!

Ayurveda helps us be in better relationship with…well, everything!

When does one become a parent?

@jocelyngordon1 popped by for a very impromptu coffee to talk to us about conscious conception and the beautiful process of working to make space for your baby, well before you’ve even gotten pregnant.

The work is multilayered and deep and powerful.

Her course Make Space for Baby begins June 13 (though you have a year to complete it). She also offers 1-to-1 sessions for people.

I wish I’d done more of this work before both my babes, but as Jocelyn explains, even the oops babies or the babies that come in before you are totally ready have been divinely planned for and preconceived on some plane.

People keep asking how I’m feeling and because it changes moment to moment, here’s a run down of the past 48hrs:
✅ Pantsless dreams.
✅ Close fam member calling to point out grammatical errors and typos.
✅ Moms I’ve greatly admired but not yet met IRL sharing about my book. @annalee15
✅ Yoga besties I’ve know for ages dedicating their entire newsletter to my book. @nicolesciacca
✅Neck pain and knee pain.
✅Snapping at my fam.
✅Deep breaths with my kids.
✅Looking at my book and thinking “holy shit, I wrote a book”
✅Moments of complete calm where I know in my bones I have no control over anything.
✅Moments of complete ANXIETY when I remember in my bones I have no control over anything.

I know a week feels like a long time to wait and many of you are thinking you’re going to order on pub date, but if you are able to preorder the book sometime this week, it helps IMMENSELY. For a long time I equated magazine models with ext

For a long time I equated magazine models with extreme thinness.

I grew up in the era of the super model. Cindy, Claudia, Christy. These fawns of women, standing 6 ft tall with legs taking up nearly all of that height. My one leg equivalent to their two.

My mum had been a model in the 60s and 70s. She would pull out her portfolio to show me ads she had been in—beehive hair and smoky eyes. She would diet relentlessly, giving me weight loss medication at 9yrs old.

When I started doing yoga, I swapped fashion mags for yoga publications. Lanky legs no longer walked on runways, they wrapped behind 📖people’s heads.

But unlike Vogue or Cosmo, the cover models on these mags were people I knew. They were my teachers, my friends. And all of them were extraordinarily beautiful and, let’s be honest, thin-framed.

I thought for sure when I became a mom and my body changed shape after pregnancy that any hope I had to be on a cover of anything would be dashed. Or at least tabled for the next however many years of breastfeeding and deep motherhood…

I had yet to see a postpartum body in any yoga magazine, let alone on the cover.

But the time has come to stop hiding our motherhood and matrescence in the media and in yoga circles.

My belly is soft because it stretched and grew with the womb that held my precious babies.

My muscles and ligaments and tendons are tighter from carrying and protecting my children.

My eyes have dark circles because I was up all night nourishing these little beings.

And thank you @emilie.bers for always making me feel special and beautiful, no matter how tired I am.

Coming home to Santa Monica for a very special author convo with my girl @jenpastiloff

Jen and I met 16 years ago on a yoga retreat in Ojai.

We were both leaving careers we had long defined ourselves by to become a yoga teachers. Someone I worked with (@swannamac do you remember???) had actually recommended that I reach out to her friend Jen who just took a yoga training.

And then super randomly (or maybe not? Universe we see you!) Jen ended up being my roommate on that retreat AND my neighbor in #santamonica !

I had the very high honor of having her write the foreword of my book and I’ve had the even higher honor of calling her my friend for as long as I have and to be mamas together.

I’m so grateful to @zibbysbookshop and @zibbyowens for hosting our reunion and the fact that it will be, not just anywhere in SM but on the street I grew up on 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean once again this feels divine.🙌🏻
