My mom rarely believed me when I was sick. She ha My mom rarely believed me when I was sick.

She had been a nurse and I was the youngest of five, so by the time I came around, she had seen it all and apparently there wasn’t anything some Tylenol couldn’t fix.

Even when legitimate stuff was going on, her impulse was to brush it off. Like, when I had the stomach flu as a toddler. Later I proved it by puking all over my parent’s bed (showed them)…

Sorry @bigtimeadulting , I’m one of those annoyi Sorry @bigtimeadulting , I’m one of those annoying morning meditation moms, BUT I promise it’s not what it looks like!

A big reason I get up at 430a is because I never really went back to sleep after my second baby started sleeping longer stretches…

I still wake up most nights at 12a, 3, and 430a and one day I thought, F- it, I’m going to take advantage of this time! I’m a huge introvert and need alone time and if it takes a 430a wake up, let’s do this!

Now, my youngest somehow smells me and wakes up too on most days, but I’ve been able to do at least 10-15min of meditation and OMG am I a better mom/wife/person?!

Does this mean you have to start getting up early and meditating, too? NO! Absolutely not!!!

Everyone needs different things to thrive. Maybe you’re a night owl? Maybe you’re more focused in motion? Maybe you are better hiding in the Starbucks parking lot 🤷🏻‍♀️

The questions aren’t how early you can get up or how long you can sit quietly for. The question is: what’s YOUR one non-negotiable, that you need to try to do EVERY day to feel like a whole you?

Award-winning writer, TV host, family policy and w Award-winning writer, TV host, family policy and women’s health advocate @saralyn_ward joined me today. She also happens to be my editor at @healthline .

This mom of 3 is working hard to change the landscape for new mothers and families everywhere.

We talked about how new motherhood should not be about “bouncing back” or “getting back” to where you were or who you were prior to having kids, but rather to view it as a blank slate.

Her resources the Mama Sagas site and app Better After Baby (which will be relaunching with early Spring) are designed to help women embrace this new chapter of “new” parenthood (it can feel new even if you’re on your 3rd or 4th kids!).

Enjoy our chat!

Let’s start to normalize and celebrate postpartu Let’s start to normalize and celebrate postpartum bodies!!!

We always see people sharing their “bounced back” bod on social, but honestly, that’s getting kind of boring…

I don’t want to see how your body gave birth and then snapped back like nothing happened.

I don’t want to erase evidence of the ferocity that was being able to carry my 2 children!

I want to see my dimples and rolls and the places I’m a little stretched out or fuller.

Let my body to tell the story of how it carried my two boys.

I don’t want to look like I bounced back, because I am far from the same person I was before becoming a mom…

Motherhood has altered every fiber of my being. Shouldn’t my body represent that?

*PS plz note that this post is nothing against those whose genetics snap them back to their pre pregnancy figures quickly.

I just want to change the narrative from every body aspiring to “bounce back” and instead, for those of us with longer roads ahead or entirely different paths altogether, to start to embrace our #mummytummy and mombody.

All the pretty girls look like THIS. 👉🏼Like YOU.

Spoiler alert: meditating as a parent will NOT loo Spoiler alert: meditating as a parent will NOT look like it did prior to kids.

I mean maybe you get lucky one day and get a whole 30min. Or maybe your kids have grown up and are out of the house.

But for parents of young kids, it’s likely your sits and practices have been much shorter, messier, and even broken up.

It can feel impossible to get time to do nothing, when you are taking care of so many people.

We know intellectually that or quiet time (I think @neeti.narula calls this “think time”) will make you a better parent, but how do we find the time to do it?!

Here are 3 tips to finding time to meditate as a busy parent:
1️⃣ Try to wake up before everyone. I know this is challenging. I’ve been getting up at 430a and Jacob is on to me, but even if you can give yourself 15 min before the madness, it’s worth it!!!
2️⃣ Readjust your time expectations. 10-15 min a day makes a difference!!! Even a number of 2min sits sprinkled over a few hours will have an impact
3️⃣Meditation doesn’t mean sitting in silence. Get creative. Discover what things make you feel “in flow”, and then do those often

I think the most important thing is that you take time just for you, so you have more of you to give.

Q4U🤷🏻‍♀️ how do you find time to meditate on busy days?

PS Um also this is very much a filter 🙄

@jivanaheyman is changing the face of yoga, by cha @jivanaheyman is changing the face of yoga, by changing our perceptions around the “yoga body.”

Through his book and organization, Accessible Yoga (and fantastic reels), Jivana is on a mission to remind the world that yoga truly is for every BODY.

I had the honor of visiting Jivana’s studio Santa Barbara Yoga Center when I did a photo shoot for the @yogajournal edition he was (finally 👏🏻) on the cover of, and it’s as lovely as he is!

I was very honored (and anxious) that he agreed to read an advanced copy of my book. 😬🙏🏼

His blurb was so thoughtful and kind:

“The Yoga of Parenting is a soothing balm for all of us who have the privilege and challenge of caring for children. It’s like a long slow exhale, creating space for reflection in the midst of the chaos.

Sarah Ezrin reminds us that parenting is a spiritual journey made up of opposites - of connection and separation, intimacy and boundaries, inhales and exhales. She offers us yoga teachings and practices to balance those opposites and cultivate a meaningful and peaceful family life.”

Now, I seek it.

The moment when anguish is so raw it seems to fold the space-time continuum and the loss feels like it happened yesterday.

Grief is not something we need fear. It need not be escaped or avoided. Grief can transport us back to those who are gone.

Embracing grief was the only way I could learn this, but it was a journey to get there…”

I am so so grateful to @herviewfromhome for sharing my essay “Grief is a Wild Horse.” I love this site for allowing writers to very rawly share their experiences with grief and loss.

We fear grief thinking it’s a wild monster, but when we allow ourselves the space to embrace it, we learn that grief is in fact a beautiful wild horse that journeys us back to those we lost.

Sometimes remembering to practice self care is har Sometimes remembering to practice self care is hardest for those who take care for others.

@rayethedoula joined me today and we covered a lot, from her journey and career as a doula, to how she navigates work while being a single mom.

We also gushed over our mutual love of @ruthhealthco , where Raye is a breastfeeding specialist and absolutely crushing their TikTok game.

But the big takeaway (for both of us) is that it is CRUCIAL to do things for ourselves when we are moms, especially if our day jobs are taking care of others.

👏🏻Parents: can you commit to doing one thing today for yourself? Comment below what that will be 👇🏼

I guess you could qualify this as another baby! My I guess you could qualify this as another baby! My new website is LIVE and it’s everything I imagined.

I think we take for granted how much time and effort goes into people’s sites.

Every single word has to be written, every single image is curated and hand pick-picked.

We often scroll through people’s site at rapid speeds, trying to get to the info we need, but it can be nice to remember that every sentence was labored over. Every picture was a well thought out choice.

Months were spent trying to capture my “rebrand.”

Long gone for me are the days of flashy poses and bare midriffs. Very grateful to have my boys and real life represented on here. After all, we chose the tagline “Let’s Get Real”.

This has been an ongoing project since end of July and I’m so grateful to my web designer Asa and her team at @studioseasalt for capturing me as I am now perfectly! And putting up with all my anxieties.

My brand photographer (and friend!) @emilibers was also an enormous influence. We worked tirelessly to organize the perfect shoot b/c honestly without these pics there would be no site. But shooting with Em is more than just getting cute pics. It’s about owning your essence and figuring out who you are in this iteration.

Finally, thank you to @crystalmariehiggins who is my marketing guru . She’s helping to keep me grounded and authentic on this long journey ahead of starting my new chapter. Very grateful.

So here is the newly rebranded Sarah Ezrin Yoga: author, yoga educator, wellness leader, and tired AF mama!!! www.sarahezrinyoga.com

I’m open to any and all feedback. Check it out and leave some comments below on thoughts or questions. 🤍👇🏼

This is all for YOU ultimately.

It’s a place for us to ALWAYS stay connected as yoga studios, publications, and social media, all seem to be changing form.

Let’s connect. Let’s get real. Life is better lived together.

Love you.

#intrusivethoughts seems to be trending on social #intrusivethoughts seems to be trending on social these days.

I’m grateful to all the people willing to help shine a light on how wild our mind can get, especially for new parents!!!

When my oldest was born, I had an overwhelming feeling that something bad was going to happen.

I constantly checked to make sure he was breathing at night and couldn’t say goodbye without ceremony.

You will hear a lot of yoga teachers say “you can choose your thoughts”!

Some even refer to the practice as mind control.

But let me tell you, I was not controlling anything those early days.

My thoughts were controlling me.

I’d be frozen, overwhelmed in parking lots unable to enter stores. I couldn’t close my eyes, lest I see horrifying images.

Here I was a yoga teacher, and yet I couldn’t do the simple thing that we all swear yoga teaches us to do.

Move over #momguilt , yoga teacher guilt is no joke.

I felt like I was failing at being a mom AND a yoga teacher.

Things got worse before they got better, but they did get better. I sought professional treatment and I started to take back my mind and that’s when I realized: This idea that you can always choose your thoughts is BS.

Intrusive thoughts are just that: intrusive. We don’t and cannot always choose them.

But we CAN always try to choose the thought that comes after. When we have the right support.

Q4U🤷🏻‍♀️ Parents, did you notice an increase in intrusive thoughts when you had kids? What did/do you do to combat these?

My only goal were to get my legs behind my head and bend in half and I was sure strength-training would get in the way of that.

A shoulder injury and subsequent surgery changed how I approach my fitness. It helped me change my goals from how poses look to how my body FEELS.

No one told me…or maybe they did and I didn’t No one told me…or maybe they did and I didn’t listen.

No one told me about the padsicles I’d have to wear after giving birth.

Or how b00b milk would cover my whole house.

Or how I’d finally get a few min alone but have to stop what I was doing to pump.

Or how I could hardly watch tv bc if anything resembling a child got hurt, I’d feel it in my bones.

We keep all the messy parts of motherhood hidden but then wonder why we all feel so alone.

well, I’ll show you my mess if you show me yours.

Today, I had to interrupt my workout, so I could pump, only to spill the milk all over myself and my bed. Meanwhile, my pant’s waistline keeps rolling down. I can barely keep my eyes open because I’ve been awake since 4:30 AM and I nearly missed not one, but two meetings today, which I also happened to have booked at the exact same time.

Did you know @andreaferretti was pivotal in my wri Did you know @andreaferretti was pivotal in my writing journey? (@Andrea did you even know 😂)

About 6 yrs ago, I did a writing private with Andrea. I was (still am!) an enormous fan of @yogalandpodcast and her work when she was executive editor at Yoga Journal.

I’d actually yet to write for @yogajournal at that point, despite bombarding editor’s inboxes with pitches (sorry @tashaeich ) and I needed her expert guidance on how to break into print and get my pieces picked up.

That 1hr that we sat and chatted at a Mission coffee shop changed the trajectory of my life. Literally.

Andrea gave me advice that helped me get in the door at publications I’d only ever had on my vision boards, including my now home pub YJ.

And I am especially grateful for the friendship we formed.🙏🏼🤍

I love Andrea’s messaging and teachings. I’m sad we’re not neighbors anymore, but I’m very grateful that she makes lots of fun reels and chats on IG so all of us can still connect with her daily!

I am so honored to have had her read an advanced copy of my book, and even more honored when she sent me back this testimonial:

“With insight, humor, and practical advice gleaned over years of experience, Sarah Ezrin has written a deeply meaningful book about yoga-informed parenting. As parents, we can use all the wisdom and support that we can get to stay grounded and connected to ourselves—and our children. Thankfully, Sarah has written this essential book to guide you on a path that's true for you, with plenty of warmth and not a drop of shame.”—Andrea Ferretti
