There’s a lot of preparation that goes into gettin

There’s a lot of preparation that goes into getting a puppy. But it’s not just the gear!

Here are some things. I wish I’ve done differently before we brought this little baby home (especially since it’s pouring rain and the kids are on break!)

1. I knew it was going to be a like puppy mat-leave (CB @lexiiiiiiiiiistone ). I don’t think my family quite got that. This could’ve used more convos an prep.

2. Kids and puppies aren’t as long naturally inclined to play as you would think. Puppies bite and scratch, and then the kids move fast and scream, and the puppy thinks it’s play and chomps even more. 😬😬

3. I had a really hard time getting clear information about how to go through night one. Everyone said to crate train, but nobody explained that you need to actually train them to go in the crate and that takes time! even weeks.

4. I’m focusing a lot on the dog and people are feeling a bit left behind. Or they’re just not used to me not being available 100%. Puppies are the most impressionable the first 16 weeks of life, so this is prime training time and any available moment that I have to work with him I am! I keep reminding everyone that there’s a long game here. We are molding a family member for life.

5. I should’ve done a better job clearing my calendar in anticipation of the puppy. It all happened, kind of fast, even though we’ve been looking for a dog for a few years now. It would be nice to not have to let people down left and right, but then again it’s good practice for me to stand in my truth and accept people’s reactions!

I know that in the end, that this is all worth it!! all the scratches, sleepless nights, late night, poop picking up, all of it!
