Most of us know that babies are direct lines to the divine, but I think our caregivers are too!

@egesan is evidence of this as he is coming up on 2months of being a new dad.

Something I greatly admire about Ege and his wife Ekat (@iamrubyray ) is how consciously they’ve approached their parenting journey from the very beginning.

Conscious parenting is not just in the interactions between parents and children, it is how we approach the whole journey of Parenting.

This was a great talk and I’m so grateful to Ege for jumping on at such a sacred time ✨

When I was 12, my parents punished me for “out of control “ behavior by taking away a modeling opportunity because they said I clearly couldn’t handle the excitement.

I never wanted to miss an opportunity like that again, so I learned how to bottle up my excitement and use it like jet fuel to propel my way up a hill.

What I often forget is that you need to save some energy to come down the other side of the mountain.

Come downs are so uncomfortable for me. I convince myself it will always be this way.

I will always feel this way.

I forget that we need the comedown. It’s a natural and necessary part of life cycles. The tide ebbs and the moon wanes after it waxes.

My tank is empty right now and instead of forcing myself forward I’m just going to lie down.

Have you ever overcorrected??? I find my life swings between these bouts of out of control-ness to hyper control.

Like my swing from my untethered, substance abusing teens and early 20s to highly restrictive behavior. Or my swing between anorexia and bu1imia.

Parenting has been the ultimate exposure to out of control-ness and I can feel myself overcorrecting at times, but I’m also SO grateful to my yoga practice for helping me stay the course in the middle path.

Strangers get a kick out of my 3-year-old’s wardrobe full of classic rock band T-shirts. “Oh, you like Led Zeppelin, huh?” they ask, laughing.

But I assure you — if my 3-year-old is wearing a band shirt, he can not only name three songs they’ve performed but also sing almost every line. And frankly, it’s getting to be a problem….

My husband and I were really enjoying giving him an education in classic rock. It beats listening to Raffi on repeat. Music runs deep in our family, and in fact, my dad is a music producer who’s worked with classic bands such as Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, and KISS (to name a few).

But when my son got obsessed with the famous AC/DC song “You Shook Me All Night Long,” I realized we might be exposing him to more than just good music…” my NEW Article My 3-Year-Old Loves Classic Rock & I’m Not About To Stop Him is up on @scarymommy as part of their nostalgia issue.

i’ve been on a lot of yoga retreats over the years, (many of which I led) and this was by far one of the most CONNECTED ones I’ve ever attended .

you could talk to anybody and find a deep thread of connection. And I’m not just talking about bonding over hometowns!

I’m talking about our deepest, darkest secrets. The parts of ourselves, that we tend to keep hidden (which the world tells us we should keep hidden), which this group of lovers of the written word choose to bravely bring light too!

I’m so inspired by all of the authors that I met! Hearing the talks from the main presenters, @silviavasla @mswildgen @eirinieeee @cinfabre @virtualpattylin inspired me, and totally unique, yet personal ways.

I’m so privileged to have been able to share Yoga with this special group of women and so thankful to @gracatito97 and Zibby for giving the Yoga of Parenting space to shine as well.

Wow what a special experience so far on @zibbyretreats And we only had a few hours together.

I love how diverse the women are on this retreat.
There are well established authors (best sellers!) and those who’s first books have yet to come out (we can’t wait @shaunabrittenham ).

We also have a ton of readers who have zero interest in writing but just love words (and Zibby). One woman said she tries to read 100 books a year!

All of us come from different places and are at very different places in our lives.

Social Engagement author @averycarpenterforrey and I bonded over leaving our littles at home, while some powerful mamas like podcast host @kymshowerslifecoach are about to throw a baby shower for a third grandchild.

There’s great power in a gathering of multigenerational women all supporting one another.

There Are No Rules for This author @jjelliott bought my book in the wild (buy small and local) and I made sure the same shop will carry lots of copies of her book the next time we visit.

@zibbyowens attracts interesting, powerful, and incredibly kind people and I am very excited to “make the yoga (as our friend @tarastiles likes to say!) this morning.

My history with Charles James was rich and filled

My history with Charles James was rich and filled with love. I’m so blessed to have been able to practice next to him and to have gotten to work with him so closely on my first photoshoot, my 2015 website and many more projects.

But most of all, I’m thankful for the many, many nights he sat next to me on the bench outside of Yoga Works, Montana after Ashtanga listening to me talk about my ill mother, my burgeoning yoga career, my disorganized dating life, and honestly, anything that came to mind.

He was a great friend and a beautiful person, and we will miss him deeply .

Hunter came to chat on today’s Let’s Get Real Parenting and shared gems of advice from her personal life and books.

We talked about the importance of building up your reserve with quieting practices such as meditation or yoga asana, so that you have resiliency when life gets loud.

We looked at what it means to have a dharma that’s not your kids and the cruciality of having pleasures and joys just for you as a parent.

We also explored the concept of having communities for “mamas” and the importance of those spaces, but also who may be left behind.

Her adorable new book offers 50 snack sized chapters for busy parents to learn how to apply mindfulness.

It’s @wanderlust__tv Wed!!!! Technically, today 9/20 we are on week 9 of our lessons, but I haven’t had an opportunity to share on social, so I’m just gonna review some of the ones that you might have missed the last few weeks.

In week 7’s flow class, we played with the concept of non-attachment in two pose families where we tend to strive: twisting and arm balancing. The hardest work of parenting isn’t the sleep deprivation or non-stop-ness. It is letting go to any attachments on the other side of that presence. It’s accepting that no matter how hard we try, our children have their own paths, and no matter how much we resist it, our children will grow and change right before our eyes.

Through breath, balance and trust, we can learn to let go of all those things we are gripping onto it. We may even fly.

Thank you for being the village @united 🙏🏼

I see so many nvideos about people’s negative experiences with kids on airplanes (like breastfeeding shaming, tantrumming grown adults because a baby crying), so I thought I would share our experience yesterday as it was so wonderful.

The crew was so kind to all of us, the harried messes that we were. Yet it was especially impactful for me as the mother. I had multigenerational women helping me with my kids, including feeding them snacks and being so kind to them.

Two flight attendants in particular took care of us (me): a grandma named Kay Perry and a former nanny named Amber Cato.

This is what it means to be the village. Thank you.

PS big shout out to Newark airport for emailing me that they found my son’s bag!

I love seeing my kids experience new things…the prob is that most of those things involve large groups of other people.

Here are a few of my top tips for surviving amusement parks when you’re a highly sensitive person and parent :
1. Bathroom breaks are king (IF you can ditch your kids). Take deep breaths, and enjoy the quiet.
2. Wear sunglasses. It acts like a barrier between you and other people.
3. Most of the baby sections are less populated than the older kids section.
4. Once you’re finally on a ride, savor the crowd-free time you get with your little ones.

It’s likely you will need a lot of recovery time, but seeing them squeal with excitement almost makes the huge drain of energy from being in a super public place worth it (almost).
