I realized the other day that I am always waiting

I realized the other day that I am always waiting “until…”

🤔 Until what, I don’t even really know.
Until I have more free time?
Until I regain my pre-babies body?
Until I make more money?
Until my kids are older?

We have a constant pressure of a to-do list that never ends. 📝
And then we are haunted by “what ifs”that keep us awake at night. 🌙

It’s so easy to get caught up in all we have to do that we forget to just be.

🌸 And that peace we so desperately seek?
Peace is only in the present.

✨ Try this today:
Pause and take a deep breath. 🌬️
Feel the air fill your lungs and the long exhale.

Focus on this moment:
🤗 The feel of your child’s hug.
☕ The warmth of your coffee.
🌿 Or even the stillness in your own breath.

When overthinking starts to creep in, gently guide yourself back to what’s in front of you. 🌟

Awareness isn’t about perfection; it’s about pausing long enough to truly be.

👀Googles extreme fatigue and reads ‘hormone imbalance’ and ‘perimenopause’ every second entry 🤪

I’m coming off two days of being laid out. I mean LAID OUT 😴🛏️

No cold symptoms…just extreme fatigue to the point I had to be horizontal or I felt like I would pass out. 😵‍💫💤

It definitely corresponded with my cycle (and my youngest’s new 2am wake-ups and crib escapes 🙆🏻‍♀️🍼 coincidence?), but I have never experienced this kind of exhaustion before…not even postpartum. 🤷🏻‍♀️👶

Is this the new normal??? I can’t be laid out for two full days every month! 😩😵

But why not? Why can’t I rest? 🛌🌿

So I embraced what I was feeling. 💕 I asked for help 🙋🏻‍♀️ and got horizontal when I needed to. I let stuff go. 🌸

Today I feel great! Better than great. 🌞✨ And I’m super appreciative for my health and energy. 💪🙏

It reminded me to remind all of YOU that rest IS YOGA. 🌙🧘‍♀️

Feeling a bit unhinged lately because…gestures all around 🤷‍♀️🌍???

Fact: Our face can be the key to finding the grounding and inner peace we all desperately seek. ✨

The Vagus Nerve is the main nerve responsible for activating our calm. 😌

The #ventralvagalstate, as it’s called, is one of: 👉 Open-mindedness 👉 Curiosity 👉 Safety 👉 Humor 👉 Calm

Known as ‘The Great Wanderer,’ the vagus nerve originates in our brainstem and innervates our jaw and throat. It also interweaves with and abuts many of our facial nerves.

Did you know? 🧐 Facial massages and face movement exercises (aka face yoga 😯) are an awesome and accessible way to tap into our inner peace. 💆‍♀️

Since many of us are feeling a bit unhinged lately because, well…gestures all around 🤯…I share my top 3 Vagus Nerve Activation Exercises in my latest vid on YouTube. 🎥💕

Wow! What a morning at @instagram ‘s Screen Smar

Wow! What a morning at @instagram ‘s Screen Smart Series in San Francisco! So many important conversations (Dr. Aliza Pressman @raisinggoodhumanspodcast spoke!!!!) and thought-provoking prompts.

The biggest takeaway that @katiehintzzambrano of @mothermag and @beingoodcompany and @jennazhermans and I talked about in length afterwards was the idea that we teach our kids how to read/ride a bike/play a sport. But we don’t teach them how to use media and technology 🙆🏻‍♀️🤯

We don’t just throw them into the deep end either…We let them jump off a high board into the deep sea with nothing but a tablet.

Instagram’s new teen accounts will help provide the “floaties” and life jackets teens (and parents) need as they start to navigate the deep waters of social media.

There will be a ton of guardrails parents can control including content, contacts, and time. But one of the coolest controls is the ability to reset your kid’s algorithm!

You are way more aware of your nervous system than you think.

Yesterday, my son started to tell me about a friend of his who makes him feel “good” vs this other friend he’s super high energy around who leaves him feeling “dizzy” and “tired.”

I was so impressed at this insight!

Here he is, almost 5 years old, and he’s already aware which friends create what responses inside of him.

I’m still learning this and I’m 42!🙆🏻‍♀️

Yoga teaches us, awareness is a HUGE first step in agency. Knowing how we feel around certain people can help us discern how we spend our time.

☑️ Like, maybe we should do phone catch ups with the friend that gets us super hyper and excited during the day versus at night.

☑️ Maybe we should spend more time with someone who helps us feel level and grounded when we have something unsettling going on in our lives.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻And PS this is good for the other person too!

Boundaries are healthy and kind for everyone involved and ALL of our friends will benefit when we are our most rested and the best selves.

Don’t be fooled: Wellness and self-care can be totally free.

In fact, some of the most powerful nervous system regulation tools require nothing more than your body.

Movement, mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, grounding practices….all you need is your body. You don’t need fancy yoga clothes or a mat or even a cushion. You just need you.

Here are my 3 fave #nervoussystemdysregulation tools that are 💯 free:

1️⃣ Connect with nature: Get outside, hug a tree. Live in the city? Look up to the sky or visit a nursery. Nature reminds us how insignificant and held we are all at the same time.

2️⃣ Take a slow breath: Need to calm yourself? Take a longer exhale. Need a boost of energy? Take a longer inhale. Manipulating our breath is like having our hand on the knob influencing our energy.

3️⃣ Make eye contact with another creature and smile: Access calm instantly through positive social interaction. #polyvagaltheory reminds us that we need other people to heal and be whole.

Even if you’re feeling antisocial or resistant to interaction, consider making eye contact with someone and smiling and notice your body’s instantaneous softening.

And the beauty of these medicines is that you never run out and you can’t over do it.

Wishing you all a soothing and easeful day (and even if your family or the world is NOT soothing or easeful today, may you find soothing and ease in these practices).

Real talk: It’ll never be the “right time,”

Real talk: It’ll never be the “right time,” if you’re a mom.

It will always a “bad time” if we let our linear brain and the calendar decide.

There will always be another school event or birthday party or holiday or sports game or deadline or family visit or family trip or or or …

It will never be a good time, which is exactly why RIGHT NOW is THE best time to invest in yourself.

Yoga and meditation literally expand time. 🙌🏻

For real: studies show yoga increases productivity by reducing stress, improving mood, and creating clarity and insight.

I can tell you the days I meditate, I move more mindfully. Time feels like it expands.

So stop looking at the calendar and clock to tell you when to start. Instead look inward.

There’s never a right time.

There is only now.
